Caçar por esporte: é haram?

Islam is the most legally articulate on hunting, because the Quran itself legislates it. Surah al-Ma'idah permits hunting (sayd) and details the method: trained hunting animals catch for you, Allah's name pronounced, the catch eaten (5:4); the general food rule — 'lawful to you are good foods' — covers the hunted. The jurists built on it: the conditions (a trained animal or a striking weapon that wounds with its edge, tasmiyah pronounced, the animal not eaten by the wild dog, death traced to the wound), the wilderness context, the prohibition of hunting within the Haram's sanctuary and while in ihram — a graduated sacredness of animal life. Against this permitted structure stands the Prophet's sharp word on sport: whoever kills a sparrow, or anything greater, without right (haqq) — for eating, or useful purpose — Allah will question him about it (an-Nasa'i); and his companion Ibn Umar's rebuke of boys pigeon-hunting for fun became a juristic proof that killing as entertainment is makruh-to-haram. Trophy culture fails the tests doubly: waste (israf — extravagance, the devil's brotherhood per 17:27) and pleasure-in-killing, which the tradition treats as a corruption of the mercy the believer owes creatures ('a merciful people' — the mercy hadith's logic extends down the food chain).
