O que o cristianismo ensina sobre Celebrar o Natal comercialmente
Segundo o cristianismo, Celebrar o Natal comercialmente: Pecado venial.
Christian Denominations: How They Differ on Celebrating Christmas Commercially
Catholic Church
The feast is holy; excessive materialism, debt, and neglect of the poor are sins of the season to be confessed and corrected.
Catechism of the Catholic Church
Protestant Churches
Protestants historically led both Christmas celebration and its critique (the Puritans banned it); today's counsel targets consumerism while keeping family celebration.
Holy Bible (Protestant canon)
Eastern Orthodox
Orthodox Christmas (January 7 for many) retains the fasting season before the feast — a built-in anti-commercial structure counsel restores.

Christmas's commercialization critique comes from inside Christianity first — the tradition has been scolding itself about it for a century and a half. The Puritans banned the feast entirely (it was, they argued, popish and pagan-wrapped); Dickens and the Victorians reinvented it around generosity; and the twentieth century's retail engine swallowed both. The theological assessment is precise: the Incarnation — God taking flesh — is the feast's center; the materialism is parasitic. The texts deployed against the parasites: 'the love of money' (1 Timothy 6:10) against debt-driven gifting; Mary and Joseph's poverty against envy's Keeping-Up; the Magi's three gifts against the thirty-toy avalanche; and Romans 12:2's 'do not be conformed' against a season that now runs from October. The tradition's affirmative practices are a whole reform program: Advent's fasting-and-waiting (the anti-next-day-delivery spirituality), the Jesse tree, the four-gift rules (something to wear, read, want, need), St. Nicholas Day's real bishop replacing the idol-Santa, and the feast's works of mercy — the Christmas Eve feeding programs being the tradition's best self. The verdict inside the tradition: celebrate hard — debt-free, poor-remembering, and with the manger at the center of the tree lot.

- Keep the feast's center: services, Advent, the story — the commercial machine is optional.
- Christian: Celebrate the Incarnation boldly — debt-free and poor-remembering; the manger outranks the mall.
- All: The season's best witness is generosity without debt and warmth without creed-erasure.

Is Christmas itself pagan?
The date's origins are debated (solstice proximity, Roman feast theories), but the feast's content is thoroughly Christian — the Incarnation, carols, the Eucharist.
The date's origins are debated (solstice proximity, Roman feast theories), but the feast's content is thoroughly Christian — the Incarnation, carols, the Eucharist. Christians answer: whatever the date's history, what is celebrated now is Christ's birth. The other traditions don't dispute the feast's identity — which is exactly why they don't observe it.
Can Muslims attend Christmas dinners with family?
Scholars counsel skipping the religious elements (graces in Jesus' divine name, carol-worship) while enjoying the turkey.

Is Santa lying to children?
A live Christian debate: some parents treat Santa-as-play (like pretend games children outgrow); others refuse any deception, citing truthfulness training.
A live Christian debate: some parents treat Santa-as-play (like pretend games children outgrow); others refuse any deception, citing truthfulness training. The moderate consensus: play without deception — children learn the game's rules early, and the real St Nicholas story is told.
