Christianity has always been suspicious of manufactured status — Jesus asked how anyone could believe who 'receives glory from one another' (John 5:44). A bought follower count is glory received from no one: thousands of ghosts applauding a person for money. Catholic ethics would classify it as a lie in commercial form — the intention to deceive is the very definition (CCC 2482) — and when inflated metrics are used to win brand deals, job offers, or book contracts, it slides toward fraud, which is grave matter. Protestant writers on digital discipleship treat it as vainglory with a receipt, and add the stewardship critique: the money bought nothing real. The Christian alternative is almost embarrassingly simple: let your yes be yes and your follower count be actual (Matthew 5:37, paraphrased). A small true audience honors God more than a large fake one, because God is not impressed by numbers that do not exist.

- Christian: Name the motive honestly — vainglory (John 5:44); let real work and real people be your reputation.
